The Ambassador
Amb. Joyce Khasimwa Mmaitsi previously served as a project management professional, with a wealth of over 15 years’ experience of focused programme development and community engagement, contributing to the noble development and humanitarian objectives of the United Nations and International Community.
She has extensive practical experience drawn from project coordination and programme management as well as facilitating and working with different stakeholders including inter alia: government officials, Legislature, Regional Economic Commissions (RECs), United Nations Common System Agencies, Not-for-Profit, philanthropic and bilateral organisations, and NGOs/CSOs, for programme delivery.
In a rich and expansive career, she served at: Safari Doctors Initiative (Lamu) (2018-July 2019); Independent Medico Legal Unit (IMLU) (January 2013 – April 2016);, Mekong Region Water and Sanitation Initiative – a United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) initiative (April 2007 – October 2012); Capacity Building International (November 2005 – March 2007); German Foundation for World Population (DSW) Kenya/Tanzania Regional Office, Nairobi (February 2005 – October 2005); German Foundation for World Population (DSW) Kenya/Tanzania Regional Office, Nairobi (February 2004 – January 2005); L’Etwal International (a private consultancy firm in the area of Human Rights and International Law) (January 2001 – January 2004).
At national level, some of her responsibilities included, among others, Rapporteur, National Cohesion and Integration Commission, 30-31 March 2017, Naivasha, Kenya; Rapporteur for Independent Medico Legal Unit training of stakeholders of Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties on the Police vetting process, 16th April, 2014, as well as Rapporteur for Journalists’ Training conducted by the Independent Medico Legal Unit (IMLU), 4-5 December 2013, Elementaita. She has facilitated various trainings and capacity building workshops.
Amb. Mmaitsi has demonstrable knowledge, skills and competencies in, inter alia: development coordination on a regional scale, budget preparation and resource management, grant management, partner networking, communication strategy development, capacity building, project related research and monitoring, and administrative oversight of projects. She is also experienced in knowledge management and advocacy.
Amb. Joyce Khasimwa Mmaitsi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Communication and a Diploma in Social Work and Social Development, both from the University of Nairobi.
