As part of the celebrations towards commemorating the 50th Anniversary of National Independence, His Excellency João Manuel Lourenço Gonçalves, President of the Republic of Angola, honoured Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, first President of the Republic of Kenya, with an Award in the Honour Class. The award was presented in recognition of Mzee Kenyatta’s legacy as a Pan-Africanist leader and his support for Angola’s liberation movement and other African independence struggle
The decoration was presented on 6th November 2025, in Luanda, Angola, and was received by Mr. Muhoho Kenyatta on behalf of the family. H.E Amb Joyce Mmaitsi, witnessed the decoration ceremony.
While confirming the award in a statement, the former President Uhuru Kenyatta noted that the award honours the deep historical ties and shared struggle for freedom between Kenya and Angola. Kenyatta further affirmed that the award will be fundamental in reinforcing the already vibrant diplomatic ties between the two countries.
